Calculation
Public Architecture's original estimate of the number of people working in architecture firms in the U.S. was based on the U.S. Census Bureau's 1997 Economic Census, including the data at right.
The estimated total architecture professionals that Public Architecture reached was 237,599. Multiplying that by 20, Public Architecture came up with approximately 5,000,000 hours or ~2,500 people working full-time.
