About this firm
LATENT DESIGN is a full service architecture and design collaborative developing innovative solutions to social issues for underrepresented individuals and communities. Our approach turns the constraints of each project into the design trajectory; exploring overlaps between space, program, form, budget and materials. LATENT DESIGN is able to address different project types and clients through a participatory working method and substantial material research that integrates all project disciplines. Embedded in our design methodology is a commitment to sustainability further by our experience with green building technologies from positive energy structures to guerilla gardening strategies. The firm actively pursues a diverse range and scale of work, from mixed-use developments, affordable housing, interior architecture and temporary acupuncture style interventions.
Pro bono approach
Public interest design is a way of enhancing an existing design practice and learning skills to become pro-actively engaged in community based participatory design. LATENT DESIGN actively advocates against the inverse relationship between design and economy and brings innovative design to those at the base of the economic pyramid in resource and budget limited environments. LATENT DESIGN goes beyond simply green design with a “triple bottom line” approach that maximizes a project’s positive impact on a community through the measurment of social, economic, and environmental impact. The process takes a holistic, creative approach to design driven by community needs and leverages other partners and assets to address project challenges. All that’s missing is you.
