The following pro bono service offerings were identified and informed by a survey of the first 150 firms to pledge their time through The 1% program.

The 1% service offering descriptions were developed with the aid of the Taproot Foundation, which similarly confers an array of "Service Grants" to build nonprofits' capacity.

Facilities Needs Assessment

Can you look at a space and understand what works, what doesn’t work, and how it could be improved? Like any organization, nonprofits have the ability to achieve greater success in spaces that adequately accommodate their staff, programs, recourses, culture, and anticipated growth. Your firm can give a lasting gift to a nonprofit by helping them understand their facilities needs.

Capital Campaign Materials
Are you looking for an opportunity to flex your design skills? Conceptual designs and other graphic presentation materials needed for capital campaigns may be just the outlet. They also provide nonprofits with the tools they need to secure funding for the renovation of an existing space or a completely new facility. Your firm has the opportunity create compelling graphic materials that will build momentum and excitement for the organization, both of which are key to attracting funding and funders.

Building & Space Identification
Do you know a good building or space when you see it? Identifying potential spaces that accommodate a nonprofit’s needs and budget can is an enormous contribution to their efforts. The capacity for architects and designers to assess a space and determine whether or not it would be feasible can be invaluable to a nonprofit organization looking to transition to a better facility.

Interior Design & Brand Integration
Have you ever successfully integrated a client’s brand with their facilities? A nonprofit’s space can make the people they serve feel safe and comfortable; make staff excited to go to work each day; and get funders energized by their mission. Your firm can help nonprofits convey their mission, values, and potential through their environment.

Accessibility & Code Compliance

Do you have expertise in building codes and ADA guidelines? Like any kind of entity, nonprofits must be prepared to serve a diversity of people. Helping nonprofits make their facilities accessible and code compliant ensures equal opportunity for their clients, staff members, and other visitors. It is also a common requirement made by funders and an expectation of individual donors.

Healthy & Sustainable Environments
Have you ever walked into a space and immediately thought, this would be a tough place to work? Nonprofits and the people they serve deserve healthy and sustainable environments, but they especially apt to settle for sub-standard spaces. Such places may have little natural light, poor air quality, little privacy, and unfit furnishings. Help nonprofits build and maintain a healthy and sustainable work environment as well as look for ways to limit their environmental impact.

Facilities Renovation
Have you ever transformed a space and it made all the difference in the world? Imagine doing that for a nonprofit; it could produce a ripple effect, reaching countless people that benefit from their services. Facilities renovations provide real design opportunities as well as the potential to leverage your firm’s relationships with manufacturers and others to support a cause.
