The Town of Swampscott's primary greenspace, Linscott Park lacked a focal point and the Town desired to construct a traditional gazebo to both act as landmark in the town and serve as a stage for outdoor performances in the park. Open House Works offered pro-bono design services in master-planning and site strategies. The gazebo itself is a high quality pre-engineered structure. The gazebo is sited near the main pedestrian and vehicular traffic preserving most of the Town Green for outdoor activities and an audience area for performances. The gazebo establishes a direct axis between an historic tree containing the carved initials and adorations of the town's youth and the Boston skyline visible in the distance. The project, therfore, functions not only as a marker and gathering space for the Town, but also as a tangible link between the Town and the greater metropolitan community.
