Description:

An abandoned retail building was slated for condemnation and demolition by Phoenix officials. The architect worked with the landlord and an upstart small business to bring modern art to a location in Central Phoenix and to celebrate the hidden character of a 1901 merchantile building.

Funding Sources: A limited improvement budget for inside and out was met of only $25,000, paid by the tenants. Pro bono architecture services and graphic design services were committed to the project.
Stakeholder Involvement: City of Phoenix offered reduced permitting costs, Mayor Margaret Hance awarded the project highest honors for civic improvement, winner of Valley Forward "Crescordia" award, Honor Award, AIA Arizona.
