Description:

MOCA (Making Opportunities for Children to Achieve) is a 501©3 non-profit organization. Our mission is to implement free or affordable supplemental after-school and summer enrichment programs throughout Union County, New Jersey where children are performing below academic grade level and lack constructive social recreation programs in their community and provide resources to eliminate destruction of academic failure and increase social involvement. MOCA currently serves children that reside in several cities within Union County, New Jersey; Roselle, Elizabeth, Linden, Roselle Park, Cranford and Garwood. MOCA will relocate from Roselle, New Jersey to Garwood, New Jersey and occupy 3000 sq. feet of space in the basement of a commercial building beginning March 1, 2011. New Jersey State Child Care Licensing inspection report permits acapacity of 47 students. The space is completely empty and the condition of the property is in good usable condition, except for a few minor repairs, radiator covers and missing ceiling tiles. There are three bathrooms and a usable kitchen. MOCA is the only tenant that will occupy the inside of the building. Attached on the outside of the building is a hair salon. The after-school program will operate Monday through Friday from 3-7pm for students in grades k-8th. The program offers a healthy meal, homework help, tutoring, book club, technology, health and fitness, and creative writing activities. The use of additional space and program activities will expand as funding becomes available. The summer program is a seven week program that will begin July 5th through August 19th 2011, for children between 5 and 12 years. The program will operate Monday through Friday between 7am and 6pm. students will engage in a host of program activities such as, academic enrichment, arts and crafts, athletics, games, field trips, weekly themes, (Safari Party) and computer classes. All outdoor games and sports are facilitated nearby at Nomehegan park.

We are seeking the services of an architect to help MOCA with minor but necessary tenant improvements, to design the space to best support our programs and allow MOCA to open its doors to children in need and provide constructive engaging programs that can lead to academic achievement and social opportunities.
