Northeast Career Planning, (NCP) is a private not-for-profit rehabilitation agency that provides educational and vocational services to individuals with all types of disabling conditions and/or barriers to employment. Our mission is to serve people with barriers to employment through the provision of various educational, training and support services and to establish linkages with government services, employers, schools and other community based resources to assist individuals to realize their employment and/or self-sufficiency goals.
In order to further support our mission, Northeast Career Planning has applied to become a Personalized Recovery Orientated Service (PROS). “Personalized Recovery Oriented Services (PROS) is a comprehensive recovery oriented program for individuals with severe and persistent mental illness.
The goal of the program is to integrate treatment, support and rehabilitation in a manner that facilitates individual recovery. Goals for individuals in the program are to improve functioning, reduce the need for inpatient hospitalization, reduce emergency service, reduce contact with the criminal justice system and decrease the need for inpatient hospitalization. Overall program goal is to increase employment, attain higher levels of education and to secure preferred housing, and more importantly full participation in the community at large.
Since 1954, Northeast Career Planning has strongly believed in the recuperative power of work and the role that work plays in recovery from mental illness. Success at works leads to many quality of life improvements ranging from increased feelings of self worth to having the financial resources available during tough economic times.
Expanding our service options to include a PROS program is a core belief of our mission as we know that recovery is possible with the right supports and services, and our program is designed to teach perseverance, promote positive self esteem and respect for self and others that is necessary to secured an maintain meaningful life roles.
We are seeking the support of the 1% program as the physical space needs modification to transition to PROS. The square footage space designated to the PROS program is 3,300, on one level and handicapped accessible. Renovation is necessary as the space needs to be welcoming and engaging and NCP realizes that this can be achieved through good design.
The program will be open weekdays 9 to 5, and will serve 80 to 100 people per day.
